N.Y. Times names Krabi, Thailand hot new destination

According to the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), the prestigious N.Y. Times newspaper in the United States names Krabi, Thailand as one of the “52 Best Places to Go in 2014”. The Times article cited Krabi as a “city in transformation”, with exotic animals, beautiful beaches, and a fascinating past to explore. Judging from the boom in tourism there in recent years, many vacationers would agree.

Phuket used to be the place to go, but with growing popularity, over-crowded beaches and too much growth too quickly, vacationers are looking for other places to spend their tourism dollars. Krabi, located in southern Thailand, is only a 45-minute boat ride away via the blue waters of the Andaman Sea. There travelers can find plenty to do without having to fight the crowds, especially during the green season.

With over 130 pristine islands, tourists can explore some of Krabi’s undeveloped land, visit ancient Buddhist monasteries, hike, go rock climbing, take Thai cooking lessons, and experience elephant trekking. In addition, practically every watersport known to man or woman is available on the beautiful Andaman Sea.

Expanded Air Service
Krabi’s growing reputation as a lovely place to go on holiday is evidenced by the number of airlines that now offer Krabi as a destination via Krabi’s International Airport.

AirAsia recently announced that in November, a new route that will connect mainland China with Krabi, Thailand. Air Asia already offers daily flights between Singapore and Krabi and between Chiang Mai and Krabi.

Finland’s airlines, Finnair, starts scheduled flights to Krabi beginning December 10, 2014, and Firefly, Malaysia’s premium short-haul airliner, also announced Krabi as a brand new destination.
Other airlines providing direct round-trip flights to Krabi from various locations include Tiger Airways, Malaysia Airways, Nok Air, and Bangkok Airways.

Krabi Accommodations
Hotel occupancy rates, according to the TAT Krabi Office, are at an all-time high, with a 95 percent occupancy rate, thus far for the current season. Travelers can choose from a number of different types of accommodation, including hostels, bed and breakfasts, hotels, and private villa rentals.
